What is Astral Harmony Vision?

A philosophy in practice: that music, art, and literature belong to a community, and that a small press can also be a way of taking care of people.

Harmony, in the oldest sense, is not sameness. It is different voices held in relation — stars in a map, notes in a chord, people in a room.

Astral Harmony Vision is a Seattle project devoted to publishing and to programs. We make books, scores, and records. We invite poems into a collective anthology. We work to get instruments to young people who want to play and do not yet have one.

The name is a prompt as much as a banner. What does astral harmony vision mean? What do you envision for harmony across the stars? The answers, we think, are made in common: in print, on tape, in a practice room, in a living room, in a city.

We are not a tax-exempt charity. We are a small company trying to keep the work concrete — objects you can hold, requests you can make, events you can attend — and to grow only as far as we can still do that well.
